Why I Am Running
My candidacy began on a Saturday morning in 2021 when I stood with angry neighbors along North Park’s 30th Street and watched city crews paint the curbs red.
We implored our elected officials not to remove street parking along this busy corridor. We reminded them that bike lanes were originally planned for the quieter Utah Street.
But they didn’t listen to us. They never do.
Communities across District 3 are urban villages where residents and small business owners expect their city government to represent their interests and listen to their voices.
That doesn’t happen anymore — not since the "strong mayor" system gave us autocracy, arrogance, and a broken government. The results have been disastrous:
Then there’s the so-called "housing crisis." District 3 needs affordable housing. Instead, we're getting expensive housing (and lots of it). Higher housing costs have exacerbated the rise of homelessness. City Hall’s scattershot policies and irresponsible spending will not fix that real crisis.
We can do better. If elected, I will:
Restore representative democracy in District 3. Communities will have advance notice of high-impact projects. Residents and small business owners will have a voice before such projects go forward.
Exercise due diligence over the fiscal management of tax dollars. One of my first hires will be a budget analyst with forensic skills who can ferret out dubious items in budget documents.
Call for sensible limits on multi-unit ADUs with no-onsite parking that engulf our neighborhoods and enrich outside investors.
Push to provide stable housing for homeless families with children. These economic refugees need immediate help. NO child should sleep on the street, in a park, or in a car.
Build and strengthen public-private partnerships that can deliver truly affordable housing. For-profit developers will not build inexpensive housing without public sector involvement.
District 3 can do better. Help me make that happen.
